Going For Gold

A very exciting weekend it was! My second time participating in the 5k for Celiac Disease awareness on Saturday morning in Oyster Bay and I came in 1st place for the females and 4th overall! I ran my best time yet completing the race in 22:46. It was like deja vu all over again from last year as once again the area experienced torrential rains the night before, but luckily it turned out to be a beautiful day for a race.

Woke up to a blood sugar of 145, had my usual breakfast and we were on our way. I was happy that it stayed steady before the race. No need for an extra snack, but that didn't mean all went perfect (Perfection never happens with T1D).

Pre race blood sugar of 180 - good to go!

On your mark... get set... go!

I was so excited to cross another finish line.

Not so excited about the post run blood sugar of... 401. Yikes.

Again, makes no sense. I didn't eat anything along the run to my knowledge. I guess I can thank the adrenaline. Nothing a correction of 4 units of insulin cant fix. It did come down, but it is very nerve-racking to have it up so high. Very frustrating - run races to have fun... do your best, but still deal with the spikes.

Luckily after my victory apple with peanut butter I leveled off at 120, now that is perfect! :)

No lows while walking around the mall. I even got my hair braided. Victorias Secret was braiding for free!

I wish I could do this myself.

Victory Bar Time:

Just like last year, my day ended with dinner at my favorite restaurant!

As you can see May has been nothing but great so far. Another fun event for tonight, SJC Gala!
