Gate 22

I don't know about you, but I am excited I am at gate 22. Why you ask?

My trip to Aruba is leaving from the gate that is next to the brand new Starbucks! I was pleasantly surprised and had to share.

Going to Aruba is the only time it is acceptable to wake up at 2:45am. :)

It has been a great couple of days leading up to this. On Tuesday I graduated from college. It was a beautiful day spent with family and friends! Although the ceremony started at 3pm and restricted me from having my usual bar time, I made sure to stop in the morning. Check out a couple of pics from the day....

In addition, my blood sugar stayed steady the whole time with no issues. A comfortable 170 which is not "in range" but it was at a point where I felt relaxed and I did not have any issues to interfere with my special day.

Anyway, this has to be brief because I am too preoccupied with getting my coffee pre flight. I am deciding whether to get a hot coffee and have a chocolate brownie crunch think thin or an iced coffee and have a creamy peanut butter bar. Decisions decisions....

My bars are all packed and ready to go.

The next time I check in will be from One Happy Island!

Gym Fool Run In

Yes, many times. Today was one of them...

Well it was just about this time last year when I wrote to you all about the gym fool experience I had. If you do not remember you can refresh your memory here

Luckily I have done a good job of avoiding him over the past year, but I guess that could only last so long. About 10 mins into my workout this morning I was mid-stride on the treadmill when out of the corner of my eye I see said fool heading my way.

"Just keep going" "Don't make eye contact" I said to myself as I tried my best to put on my "please leave me alone do not bother me with my earphones in" look.

Didn't work.

As gym fool comes right in front of my machine he starts to wave his hand and proceeds to tell me "it's good to see you looking healthy now."

EXCUSE ME?! Oh no, he is not getting away with this anymore I thought.

I slam down on the stop button and flat out tell gym fool that he needs to stop commenting on my weight and appearance everytime I see him. It's inappropriate and I really do not appreciate it. Please leave me alone!!!!

By his deer in headlights reaction I think he got the message... Finally! :-)

I mean come on, seriously? What business is it of his to be so concerned with how I look... And the way he says it like he approves. Last time I checked fool, you are not my doctor, relative, etc. just some annoying old man who interrupts my workouts and says stupid thigs!!

Despite how annoyed I was that he not only had the audacity to make comments again and more importantly INTERRUPT MY WORKOUT... I felt good that I finally told him to stop!

"You're gonna hear me ROAR!"

Hopefully I have no run ins tomorrow and can get in a good Memorial Day workout. I do have Aruba in 4 days after all!

Other than my gym experience this morning I have had a pretty good weekend. Covered a spin class yesterday morning and got good feedback, always a good feeling!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. I am looking forward to BBQs and working on my base tan.

Going For Gold

A very exciting weekend it was! My second time participating in the 5k for Celiac Disease awareness on Saturday morning in Oyster Bay and I came in 1st place for the females and 4th overall! I ran my best time yet completing the race in 22:46. It was like deja vu all over again from last year as once again the area experienced torrential rains the night before, but luckily it turned out to be a beautiful day for a race.

Woke up to a blood sugar of 145, had my usual breakfast and we were on our way. I was happy that it stayed steady before the race. No need for an extra snack, but that didn't mean all went perfect (Perfection never happens with T1D).

Pre race blood sugar of 180 - good to go!

On your mark... get set... go!

I was so excited to cross another finish line.

Not so excited about the post run blood sugar of... 401. Yikes.

Again, makes no sense. I didn't eat anything along the run to my knowledge. I guess I can thank the adrenaline. Nothing a correction of 4 units of insulin cant fix. It did come down, but it is very nerve-racking to have it up so high. Very frustrating - run races to have fun... do your best, but still deal with the spikes.

Luckily after my victory apple with peanut butter I leveled off at 120, now that is perfect! :)

No lows while walking around the mall. I even got my hair braided. Victorias Secret was braiding for free!

I wish I could do this myself.

Victory Bar Time:

Just like last year, my day ended with dinner at my favorite restaurant!

As you can see May has been nothing but great so far. Another fun event for tonight, SJC Gala!

As of Lately...

I am FREE!! I am officially done with my undergraduate career. Student teaching: check, Finals: check, all that is left is to walk across the stage at graduation! Let's catch up on what has been going on so far in May.

Presented my math seminar presentation with my group:

Mathematical modeling of blood glucose, how appropriate!

Look what I got to do on my last day of college:

I am going to miss all of the events at SJC. I got to do some pretty fun things!

JDRF One Night was a huge success! What a fun night to meet new people who are all there for the same great cause. It was also funny to see other T1D's who have had a little too much to drink. One of the other bachelors gave me his pack of glucose tablets as a gift... how sweet? (No pun intended)

I sold for $700!

Thanks to Lizz for being my wing woman... and to Lindaloo and my mom for always coming out to support me!

This past week was spent in Naples. It was great to get away and get some sun and family time. Despite a long and delayed trip home, I had a fantastic getaway!

Mothers Day:

Pre Aruba Tanning:

First time going to a restaurant and I saw gluten free beer on the menu, so I had to try:

Ending the trip at my favorite restaurant, Stonewood:

So many other things to look forward to this month. Starting tomorrow with the annual 5k for Celiac Disease! Hopefully I will have as much success as last years race.

Now that I have more time you will be hearing more of me. Aren't you all lucky
